I’ve known Tori for many years now—our paths first crossed while volunteering with the dog rescue Fetch + Releash—and getting to photograph her with Sadie felt like such a full-circle moment. Sadie was the most relaxed horse I’ve worked with so far, and witnessing the deep, unspoken bond between her and Tori taught me so much. And let me tell you—it was one of the hottest days Ontario has seen this year, but Tori, Sadie, and Charles handled it like absolute pros.

When Antonia told me she had a miniature horse along with her beloved companion horse, Mocha, I was beyond grateful for the chance to visit her home and capture their bond. She was thoughtful in sharing that her property is more of a hobby farm—but to her, these animals are family. When I began horse portraiture, I had no idea the different paths it would lead me down across Ontario. One thing I’ve always stood by in my work: everyone is welcome—no matter the place, the setup, or the story.

I met Tara through a friend of a friend, and when she invited me to her farm to meet her horse, Philosopher, and her service dog, Zora, I was immediately in awe of the deep bond she shares with them. It was clear from the start that these animals are truly her family. As we wandered around the farm, capturing quiet moments and connection, Zora calmly observed it all—like she’s been there through every chapter. It was such a privilege to witness and document that kind of love.

It was such a treat when Abigail offered to showcase her horses in action—jumping, trotting, and truly showing what they’re capable of: not just competing, but winning. This was my very first time capturing a horse in full motion, carefully timing each frame as they soared over jumps and powered through their strides. It was exhilarating, challenging, and such an incredible way to witness the athleticism and trust between rider and horse.
