Living in the world right now there are so many creative ways that are being tested and brought to the spotlight on how to make a wedding work. Though I have a lot of couples asking, “what is an elopement these days?” It’s a word going around and not a lot of explanation. And the truth is, it can be whatever you want it to be. Traditionally the definition is an elopement is when two people aren’t meant to be together because their family doesn’t approve so they take off somewhere far away and get hitched without telling anyone. Am I right? This is NOT the case anymore. The way I define it is an adventure with a small group of people in an amazing spot with a small list of vendors involved.
What’s the difference between an elopement and intimate wedding?
Mainly this has to do with guest count. To me, an elopement is an adventure-gathering and an intimate wedding takes on the elements of a wedding but in their OWN way that is personalized to the couple (getting ready, first look, ceremony, cocktail hour, family portraits, etc.).
